Issues annotating with Apple Pencil

I just submitted feedback with a screenshot via the Zotero beta for iPad.

I’m having inconsistent but repeatable trouble selecting text and annotating or highlighting in Zotero for iPad. I can be reading a paper, selecting text, highlighting, and then all of a sudden be unable to select text with the Apple Pencil. I can then select text with my finger and highlight, but occasionally, even that will stop working. Closing the paper and reopening it will occasionally allow me to resume annotating with Apple Pencil. But sometimes it changes from one page to another. This has happened across dozens if not, hundreds of different papers from various publishers.

I previously deleted and reinstalled the Zotero beta for iPad. That seemed to help for a few days, but the issue returned.

I am on iPadOS 26.0.1 (not the beta). Let me know what else I can share.

    Hey @nathancashion, can you please provide some more info:
    - Which apple pencil model do you use?
    - What are the options you have selected in Settings.app > Apple Pencil
    - Finally, can you make and share a screen recording of this issue, from the time annotations and scrolling do work as expected, until the time the issue appears and you need to close the reader.

    Since you mention it in the screenshot feedback, tapping and holding in a non-text area, either with finger or pencil, correctly shows the Note & Image menu, that is to be expected.

    This is Apple Pencil model A2051 (neither Lightning, USB-C, nor Pro).

    Settings turned on are:
    - switch between current tool and eraser
    - only draw with Pencil
    - Scribble

    To clarify, the Note/Image menu pops-up over an area WITH text, when the Pencil and finger are no longer able to select text.

    Update: I’ve noticed that when tap and hold with Apple Pencil does not select text, I can double-tap with the Pencil and then drag to select text. So far it has worked every time.
