iOS Debug Log: D2137179035

There is a mismatch in my syncing from iOS to windows. I should have 5000 less articles on windows. I used my iPhone to read paper abstracts. Can anyone help me?
  • Just to confirm, you deleted 5000 articles on iOS and those changes never synced to windows?
  • Exactly. I would thus like to restore Zotero from my iOS version.
  • When you open your web library, does it show the same state as iOS or Windows? Can you see those deleted articles there?
  • Windows state. I can see all the deleted articles there.
  • How did you delete those articles on iOS? Did you select all of them via selection tool, move them to trash and then empty the trash? Or was it done one by one throughout the time and they never synced?
  • One by one. It for sure synced since I constantly manually synced from iPhone over the course of several weeks. Thus, the web version should have also tracked these changes. Maybe this problem happened because I opened my windows laptop and synced while having my phone open and maybe there was a conflict and Zotero accepted only my windows database.
  • Having multiple devices active should not cause problems, sync should solve those conflicts either in the background or ask you about them. If you're comfortable with it, could you try syncing with a beta build 2.0.0 401? We've fixed a bug which could cause sync skipping some changes. Although missing 5000 deletions is unusual.
  • I can do it. On iPhone or windows?
  • On iPhone. Since you can still see those deleted articles on web library, that means your iPhone didn't sync those deletions to our server. That means the iPhone is the issue which we're trying to fix.
  • Wait, I apologize, I mistakenly communicated this issue. The iPhone was on the latest version of the database, after I opened my laptop, the iPhone reverted the database to an old version, the version of my laptop. So the goal would be to revert my iPhone's version back to the version from 24 hours ago, and then sync also my laptop to that version from my phone.

Should I still try syncing with the beta build? Thank you and I apologize for the miscommunciation
  • Oh, that changes things. We'll get back to you a bit later, as I might not be able to solve this. A colleague will have to take a look.

Can you provide the zotero.org URL after clicking on a few of the items in the web library that should've been deleted?

Unless you went out of your way to use Replace Online Library from the Windows computer, it shouldn't be possible for deletions undone just by syncing another device — that's not how syncing works. I also don't see anything that clearly looks like that in your online database.

Do you know if the web library ever showed the deletions?

Do you recall using either "Replace Online Library" on Windows or "Full Sync Debugging" on iOS? (Both are buried in the settings and shouldn't be triggered in normal usage.)
