How do i resolve the same citation being given a new number

Im using Chicago shortened note and bibliography , and google docs
If I insert the same reference again, later in my document, it is given a new number
Is there a way to fix this?

    Footnotes, as used in Chicago Manual, are always consecutive. If you want the same citation referred to by the same number, you'll want to use a numeric citation style, e.g. Vancouver or IEEE among those that come preinstalled with Zotero (or hundreds of options on zotero.org/styles
