Does Zotero even want people to contribute and support it?

I have been a user and fan of Zotero for over a decade. And so I wanted to finally contribute to it. So I spent 2 weeks (about 80 hours) to build a really thorough translator for ChatGPT that could handle internal chats, shared chats, and even projects. I did use Codex, but I did so carefully, and yes, the code is big, but I have tested it a lot.

So when I submitted it for a PR, instead of having a full discussion, I got this:

Sorry, this is just not mergeable, and getting it to a mergeable state would take more work than writing a new translator from scratch. Please only use AI to generate snippets and make modifications in the future. Whatever Codex is doing, it's completely out of step with the kind of code we'd ever be able to merge in this repo.

I recognize that the code is more bloated than it should be, and I am willing to refactor it with time, but this feels like my work is worthless. Why should anyone spend time trying to help out when they can't even have a full dialogue in trying to submit something. With the assumption that I just "vibe coded" the whole thing, when in fact, I worked pretty damn hard on it, and there is a reason for much of its complexity.

But I was never asked about that.

So I don't know, I hate having my work wasted because people make assumptions and won't talk with me. I am not trying to have a flame war, but it would be nice to have more dialogue than just to have my work dismissed outright, that is all I'm asking for.
