Hi,

I keep getting an error message whenever I try to remove Zotero links from my Google doc. (I want the citations, not the links.) I read online about a number of workarounds using Word, but none of them are working and, even if they did, the formatting would be shot by the time I reupload it as a Google doc. Is there a way I can just get this error fixed so that I can just remove the links? I just need the links gone. I'm on a Mac.

Thanks.

  • If you saved a Google Doc file and are editing it with Word, you should see Moving Documents with Zotero Citations Between Word Processors
  • No, sorry. What I’m saying is that I really just need a way to fix Zotero so that it removes the links in Google docs. Why is this error happening and is there a way I can get this to work in Google? Thank you so much!
  • It's not clear based on your original post what the issue is. Zotero stores Google Docs citations as links internally. This is generally not an issue, unless you want to move to a different word processor or export as PDF. In that case you should make a copy of the document, and then use the Zotero -> Unlink citations... menu option.

If that is not what you're looking for, please describe what you're trying to do and why, and where you're getting issues. See Reporting Problems
  • I’m sorry. I thought giving the debug ID would share some of that information. I have a report ID, too: 1212130681. The issue is that in Google docs, when I “unlink citations” using the menu, I receive an error message saying basically that something has gone wrong. Then I am sent to a troubleshooting page that doesn’t address the issue, but I’m told I need a debug and report ID to use in a forum to ask for help. I agree that this shouldn’t be an issue and it makes sense that it “generally” isn’t, but the error persists. I will be submitting my paper as a Google doc, per my instructor’s request. She will have viewer only privileges but she will see the Zotero links and I would rather she not. Does this all make better sense?
  • Ok, given the above, you would need to follow the final step of Troubleshooting Errors in Word Processor Documents. There seems to be a bug in Zotero's code for unlinking citations, but we cannot tell what it is without a doc where we can reproduce the issue.
