How to get Bibliography output correct based on chosen Style

I've selected Journal of the American College of Cardiology as my Citation Style. Even though the example looks correct:
Hisakata R, Nishida S, Johnston A. An adaptable metric shapes perceptual space. Curr Biol. 2016;26:1911–1915.

It's spitting out the journal abbreviation as follows:
Halperin JL, Williams ES, Fuster V. COCATS 4 Introduction. JACC. 2015;65:1724–1733.

Does anyone know how I can adjust it so that the output is "J Am Coll Cardiol" instead of "JACC"?

Thanks in advance!

Assuming that the "JACC" is input on import, you can just change it to "Journal of the American College of Cardiology" in Zotero and the style will do the rest.
(make sure that in Word, Zotero tab, under "Document preferences" you have "Use Medline abbreviations" checked)
  • Thank you damnation for your quick response. Fortunately I had found that in Word, Zotero tab, Document Preferences, that option you mentioned to "Use Medline abbreviations." However, whether it was checked or not would still result in the same output in the Bibliography.

What I just discovered though, is that in the Zotero list of references, in the right details pane, not all of the refs have something filled in for the "Journal Abbr" field. For those that do, it outputs correctly in the Bibliography. For those that don't, you have to manually edit the "Publication" field to J Am Coll Cardiol

I imagine this has more to do with the coding in PubMed or other sources where the refs are pulled from, not an issue with Zotero.
  • Not necessarily.
As I mention above, you have to have the full name under "Publication" in Zotero. Then Zotero will be able to abbreviate this as per MedLine abbreviations.
The "Journal Abbr" is there to give an override in case you want an abbreviation different to MedLine, say "JACC".
  • That's a helpful clarification to your prior comment that the full name needs to be listed in the "Publication" field in Zotero, and then Zotero will abbreviate it based on MedLine standards.

    Thanks!
