changing citation-format doesnt work

Hi, I'm writing an article for a wolters-kluwer journal. Now Wolters-Kluwer wants footnotes, but the zotero style creates inline notes. I tried to edit the style and change the citation-format to note instead of author-date. Unfortunately this didn't create a footnote. What else can I do?

What exact journal are you publishing in? Can you share a link to the guidelines?

The guidelines are in dutch (sorry): https://www.wolterskluwer.com/nl-nl/know/authors/for-our-authors . I was hoping that the zotero-style would follow the guidelines, but it probably doesn't anyway. But I'd still like to know how to create footnotes in the style.
