Problem annotating/highlighting because of side notes

Hi, I'm currently reading a book and since I've downloaded the doc, writing appeared on the side. Because of these side-writing, the pointer
does not recognize the main text when I try to select it to highlight or write note on specific lines. It just recognizes and highlights the side notes. Do you know what can I do to finally being able to highlight the main text? (I've already tried to redownload the book, the same lines appear) I tried to insert a screenshot of the side notes, I don't know if it appears?

Title of the book: The Handbook of Child Language, 1996 - Fletcher & MacWhinney
Downloaded from: https://onlinelibrary-wiley-com.accesdistant.sorbonne-universite.fr/doi/epdf/10.1111/b.9780631203124.1996.x (Wiley Online Library - had access using my University's codes)

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Does the highlighting work properly if you open this PDF in another PDF viewer?
  • No it doesn't. Only the side-writings get to be highlighted, not the main text.
  • This means the text layer is incomplete, and the PDF needs to be re-OCRed.
  • I've just been to the URL and am wondering if the PDF was obtained using the print option? I get the impression Wiley might be doing this on purpose...
