No DOI or PDF saved for Zenodo preprint

Hi,

I am using the Firefox connector to save a Zenodo preprint (https://zenodo.org/records/17065099) to my library. The item saves but does not include a DOI or the PDF attachment. I have also tried https://zenodo.org/records/15362868 and https://zenodo.org/records/10212330 with same results.

Here is the biblatex I get from https://zenodo.org/records/17065099:

abstract = {Under the banner of progress, products have been uncritically adopted or even imposed on users --- in past centuries with tobacco and combustion engines, and in the 21st with social media. For these collective blunders, we now regret our involvement or apathy as scientists, and society struggles to put the genie back in the bottle. Currently, we are similarly entangled with artificial intelligence (AI) technology. For example, software updates are rolled out seamlessly and non-consensually, Microsoft Office is bundled with chatbots, and we, our students, and our employers have had no say, as it is not considered a valid position to reject AI technologies in our teaching and research. This is why in June 2025, we co-authored an Open Letter calling on our employers to reverse and rethink their stance on uncritically adopting AI technologies. In this position piece, we expound on why universities must take their role seriously to a) counter the technology industry's marketing, hype, and harm; and to b) safeguard higher education, critical thinking, expertise, academic freedom, and scientific integrity. We include pointers to relevant work to further inform our colleagues.},

FWIW I encounter the PDF issue elsewhere too, so it might be related to my network (although I did turn off proxies in firefox connector), but the DOI issue seems unique to the Zenodo connector.

Cheers

As designed originally, the Zenodo/InvenioRDM import translator doesn't try to retrieve any files (PDF or otherwise), as it was intended for any kind of object up to 50Gb. Perhaps this can be revisited, but currently what you are seeing is the expected behaviour.

The DOI problem feels more like an actual bug, I can investigate that. Thanks for reporting!
  • Thanks, that makes sense (but may be worth revisiting at some point as people increasingly post preprints there and tag them appropriately as 'preprint').
  • Yeah, we could fetch PDFs.
  • Oh, we are actually trying to save the PDF already. I'll figure out why it isn't working.
  • @vuorre, @aborel: We are already trying to save PDFs on Zenodo, but the Connector is rejecting the PDFs because Zenodo serves them with the wrong type. That issue will be fixed in the next Connector version.

I was able to reproduce the DOI issue as well. Pushed a fix. Your Zotero Connector should auto-update within a few minutes, or you can update translators manually from the Advanced pane of the Zotero settings.
  • Great, thanks!
  • Thanks, confirmed I get the DOI now.
