YouTube Transcriptions

On YouTube, you can download video transcriptions. I would love Zotero to download, store, and index these transcriptions which would be very useful for researchers who use YouTube, allowing us to save the content and search across them later, along with all of our other saved content.
  • I would use that too. I'm now using a messy system to keep track of transcripts, and it breaks all the time.
  • Agreed. Would like too.
  • Could you be more specific about what you want Zotero to do here? If you download the video transcript and add it as an attachment in Zotero, it should be indexed like any other text file.
  • I think do this automatically?
  • I'd also love for Zotero Connector to fetch YouTube transcripts automatically, since oftentimes video descriptions are rather non-informative (for example, sometimes there's a sponsored link but no coherent description of the video content). As someone who has ~700 videos saved in Zotero and even more in various playlists, I'd rather not download all these transcripts manually.
  • This probably isn't feasible for us to implement and maintain, unfortunately. YouTube intentionally makes it hard for automated tools to get video transcripts.
