High memory requirements

Dear Zotero developers,

I am running Zotero on Linux (Ubuntu 20.04, Dell Latitude, Intel i5, 16 Go) and recently I was prompted to update from Zotero 6 to Zotero 7, which I agreed to.

I would like to report that the Zotero 7 version increases the constant background memory requirement as evaluated by "top" from 2.9% to an astonishing 7.5%.

This is more memory usage than firefox and other modern browsers.

I understand that the migration to Zotero 7 might be needed in the future but this high requirement on my PC which RAM drive is getting old is making me concerned.

For that reason I downgraded back to Zotero 6 for my research work,

Best regards,

Maxime
  • That shouldn't be the case, and doesn't track what we've seen. In our testing, Zotero 7 uses about the same amount of memory as or less than Zotero 6. If you're seeing something different, that may be due to a plugin or some specific problem with a particular workflow or file.

If you can reproduce this after disabling all plugins and restarting Zotero, we'd want to know specific steps to reproduce from a fresh start with no tabs, with specific memory figures from Zotero 6 and 7.
  • I have the following plugins installed:

    -DOI Manager (https://github.com/bwiernik/zotero-shortdoi)
    -Zotero LibreOffice Integration by Zotero

And I used to have also this one but it is currently disabled on my version of Zotero 6.0

-Better BibTex for Zotero by Emiliano Heyns

    Best regards,

    Maxime
  • The answer is still what I said above.
  • I think I'm getting the same issue. I'm running Zotero on Sequoia 15.1 on a Macbook Air M1.

Zotero always gave me memory issues but now its even more. I'm wondering what can be done to reduce this. I don't have any plugins installed as far as I know.
