I just wonder why it doesn't work. I use acrobat, but my comments (underlined and highlighted) are not visible in the zotero right pane. If I wanted to see it, I would import comments into zotero reader, but this would cause my original pdf comments to be removed and become zotore comments. I wonder why it is designed this way and why it is not possible to view comments added by external pdf software in zotero's right panel. Are there plans to improve this function in the future?

For annotations embedded in the file, you currently have to open the file in the reader once before they'll appear in the item pane. You don't have to import them.

In a future update, we plan to fix this so it scans new files for annotations without needing to open them in the built-in reader.

@dstillman This is great to hear that scanning new files for annotations is planned for a future update. When adding this option, would it also be possible to add an option to automatically convert them to Zotero annotations for those of us who prefer to integrate them directly?
