Translator for Papers Past

Hi all,

I work at the National Library of New Zealand | Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa as part of the team looking after Papers Past. Papers Past is an online archive of New Zealand documentary heritage collections — newspapers, periodicals, parliamentary papers etc. https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/

Once upon a time, someone helpfully created a Zotero translator, but it hasn't been updated in 4 years and isn't coping too well with the current site. See the translator here: https://github.com/zotero/translators/blob/master/Papers Past.js

Recently, we've enriched the metadata for our Newspapers collection, and would like to update the translator to take advantage of that. We can go ahead and work on an update, but if there's someone still active in the Zotero community who has worked on the translator before, we'd love to collaborate. Also, if you're a Zotero + Papers Past user and have views on how you'd like to see the translator working, feel free to weigh in.

Thanks in advance,

Jason
  • We'd definitely be interested in updating the Papers Past translator. If you'd like to work on it, just give it a shot and open a PR on the zotero/translators GitHub repo. I was the last person to update the translator, and I would be happy to review what you come up with (or finish it up if you run into any difficulties).

That said, we try to keep development-related discussion to the zotero-dev group, so if you have further pre-PR questions, please send an email there.
  • Perfect, thanks Abe. We'll get to work on that, and that'd be great if you could review what we come up with. Thanks also for the steer re: the zotero-dev group — I'll follow up there if needed.
