APA7: Book edition

APA7 style (apa.csl) currently uses 'edn' to shorten a book edition (e.g. 2nd edn) but the APA7 guide has 'ed.' as the shortened version for a book edition (e.g. 2nd ed.).

  • Okay, as happens just after you post! It seems to use 'edn' when citation language is set to English (UK) and 'ed.' when citation language is set to English (US). I'm not sure why but...

“edn” is the standard UK abbreviation for edition. When APA style is implemented by journals using UK English, UK abbreviations and spellings are used. For example, https://bpspsychub.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1348/000712604773952430

The same is the case when APA is implemented in French, German, Dutch, etc.
