Report ID: 1613412463 - Repeated Error Message for Items Saved from PsycInfo

I am repeatedly receiving the following error when saving references directly from PsycInfo via the OVID interface:

"The creator name “T. M., Amabile, Amabile, T. M., Amabile, Barthes, …” in one of your items is too long to sync. Shorten the field and sync again.

If you receive this message repeatedly for items saved from a particular site, you can report this issue in the Zotero Forums."

When I check the saved item, these names are appearing in the editor field. They don’t belong there - they seem to be authors cited within the article’s own reference list. The error occurs because the field ends up containing an unusually long string of names.

I wanted to report this issue here as suggested in the error message.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Go to APA PsycInfo via the OVID interface.
2. Select one or more article references.
3. Click Export > choose RIS format > select Complete Reference as the field option.
4. Import the RIS file into Zotero.
5. Open the imported item in Zotero.
6. Check the editor field — in some cases it contains a long list of names pulled from the article’s reference list.
7. When Zotero syncs automatically, it displays the error.
  • Ovid/Psycinfo generate invalid editor data in exported RIS, and have for years. See this comment for an explanation of why our options to fix it aren't great, and see the following comment for a link to code I've provided to correct the problem in bulk.
  • Thanks, appreciate the info
