Address bar icon not appearing JSTOR and everything else
The address bar icon is not showing up basically anywhere.... I first noticed it in JSTOR but have found it to be missing everyhwere else (other dbases and websites) except for my library's catalog. I just reinstalled the plugin and that didn't help. Any ideas? Anyone else with the same problem??

if i restart firefox and it reloads a page with a proxied url from, say, history cooperative, i don't see the zotero download icons next to the url. to see the icons again i have to go through the university db page again and reload this url:
http://mutex.gmu.edu:2048/login?URL=http://www.historycooperative.org
Here's an article page where no icon shows:
http://0-www.jstor.org.skyline.cudenver.edu/cgi-bin/jstor/listjournal/00846570/di980514/98p0131a/0?searchUrl=http%3a//www.jstor.org/search/AdvancedResults%3fhp%3d25%26si%3d1%26q0%3dalland%26f0%3dau%26c0%3dAND%26q1%3dadaptation%26f1%3dti%26c1%3dAND%26wc%3don%26sd%3d%26ed%3d%26la%3d%26ic%3d00846570%7c00678503%26node.Anthropology%3d1&frame=noframe¤tResult=00846570%2bdi980514%2b98p0131a%2b0%2c00&userID=84c2201e@cudenver.edu/01cc99331175a9114ce61ea6b&dpi=3&backcontext=page&backurl=/cgi-bin/jstor/viewitem/00846570/di980514/98p0131a/0%3fsearchUrl%3dhttp%253a//www.jstor.org/search/AdvancedResults%253fhp%253d25%2526si%253d1%2526q0%253dalland%2526f0%253dau%2526c0%253dAND%2526q1%253dadaptation%2526f1%253dti%2526c1%253dAND%2526wc%253don%2526sd%253d%2526ed%253d%2526la%253d%2526ic%253d00846570%257c00678503%2526node.Anthropology%253d1%26frame%3dnoframe%26dpi%3d3%26userID%3d84c2201e@cudenver.edu/01cc99331175a9114ce61ea6b%26currentResult%3d00846570%252bdi980514%252b98p0131a%252b0%252c00%26config%3d%26PAGE%3d0&config=jstor&PAGE=0

I suppose that this I'm encountering the same issue with the proxy server.... I'll keep my eyes peeled.
Mr. Stillman, you mention above about off-campus access, but the url i provided is from JSTOR while being on campus. Don't know if that matters.
Thanks.
If you are on campus, you might try accessing JSTOR directly and see if it lets you in without the proxy based on the university IP address block.
I'm at a III school and have the same issues everyone else reports - my urls get turned from http://www.domain.com/ to http://0-www.domain.com.catalog.school.edu/ and no Zotero icons show up, nothing can be saved, etc.
As the de facto expert on bibliographic citation managers at my college, I *want* to be able to recommend Zotero, but simply can't in good conscience do so until it works with our proxy server. Looking forward to any resolution that can happen on this front.
I can't get the icon to come up on most pages either. It will come up on an article page of the NYT or the WP, but not on the home page, for example. It won't come up on Wikipedia either: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UNESCO_World_Heritage_Site . It does come up on Amazon, when I pull up specific book, but not again on the home page or similar pages where's there's a collection of books recommended: http://www.amazon.com/predicament-television-Arab-world/lm/R3VTVPE17NDGUZ/ref=cm_lmt_dtpa_f_2_rdsssl1/105-9657585-4658030?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=listmania-center&pf_rd_r=1JAG7GM200C037WJMAD3&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=253462201&pf_rd_i=0745324193
As for getting data through proxy servers from my university: it won't put up an icon on Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe through my university: for example:
http://www.lexisnexis.com.proxy-um.researchport.umd.edu/us/lnacademic/results/docview/docview.do?risb=21_T2153158529&format=GNBFI&sort=RELEVANCE&startDocNo=1&resultsUrlKey=29_T2153158532&cisb=22_T2153158531&treeMax=true&treeWidth=0&csi=222751&docNo=2
I have already recommended Zotero widely to colleagues and friends at my university, so would love to get this fixed since I think the program would be a tremendous asset to all researchers...

I just started using Zotero, and instantly became a convert. However, I have the same problem a lot of people in this thread do of the data not importing when working though a proxy server (the "http://0-www." thing). Frankly, this is a pretty big deal as I don't spend most of my time on campus (Georgetown University) and have no intention of manually typing in all of the data for journal articles (or for books off WorldCat or any other database accessed remotely).
I really, really hope you devise a solution, because aside from this, Zotero is awesome!
Our library policy -also for copyrights reasons- is to access on campus and off-campus, all our subscribed databases through the Innovative Millennium WAM (Web access manager). This is a proxy which identify who's part of our users world wide.
I tested with many databases but also with one single bib. database that you all know, Historical Abstract and which is also accessible campus wide through the IP numbers of my institution.
Using the proxy there's no way to see Zotero icons on the right side of the URI bar.
If I access Historical Abstract starting, let's say, from Google, ABC Clio verifies my computer IP number and allow local access even without our proxy. In this case all downloading Zotero's functions are visible and accessible !
Like other people before, I have to say that this is a central issue to recommend Zotero or not here at the European University Institute, Florence, Italy. Everybody I thought about the software is enthusiastic but if using our proxy, we lose some essential features like downloading bibliographies, we'll have to wait for telling more our community about it....
Any plan to solve it ? Would it be useful to work with our system librarian for resolving it ? Any other suggestion ?
Thank you in advance

Next Monday's class comparing Zotero and Endnoteweb should be interesting, to say the least. (I was hoping to gain Zotero converts in that class, not Endnoteweb ones!)
1.0.3, perhaps?
(In a parallel universe I am a coder and could understand exactly what you said there, but in this one, I'm someone who knows only enough to be dangerous.)
Thank you!
However, we've just now committed updated translators for ABC-Clio Serials, ACM, BioMed Central, Cambridge Journals Online, EBSCO, JSTOR, and Lexis-Nexis to address these proxy issues. Zotero should auto-update within 24 hours, or you can update manually by clicking Update Now on the General pane of the Zotero prefs.
Note that the changes were purely in detection, so there's no guarantee that the saving will work correctly through all proxies. Please let us know if you continue to have problems saving from those sites.
Cambridge Journals Online is more complex. In looking at an issue's TOC like this: http://0-journals.cambridge.org.luna.wellesley.edu/action/displayIssue?jid=AFH&volumeId=48&issueId=03 nothing is detected. In looking at an article abstract like this: http://0-journals.cambridge.org.luna.wellesley.edu/action/displayAbstract?fromPage=online&aid=1438420&fulltextType=RV&fileId=S0021853707003246 nothing is detected. In looking at the HTML full-text of the article like this: http://0-journals.cambridge.org.luna.wellesley.edu/action/displayFulltext?type=6&fid=1438172&jid=AFH&volumeId=48&issueId=03&aid=1438168&fulltextType=RA&fileId=S0021853707002800 Zotero detects the OpenURL links (or possible the Google Scholar links) in the footnotes.
We don't push our BioMed Central journals through our proxy server, and we don't subscribe to ACM publications, so I'm no help there.
Thanks for such quick work on this - it's happy-making.
I seem to be having the same problem with proxy access-- the book/folder icons aren't appearing on JSTOR or my campus library catalog (but amazon.com works perfectly). Otherwise, I'm really excited about Zotero (less excited about actually writing my dissertation...).
Here's a JSTOR link, if that helps:
https://vpn.lib.ucdavis.edu/view/00224529/ap070108/07a00090/,DanaInfo=www.jstor.org+0?currentResult=00224529%2bap070108%2b07a00090%2b0%2cFFBF1D&searchUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.jstor.org%2Fsearch%2FBasicResults%3Fhp%3D25%26si%3D1%26gw%3Djtx%26jtxsi%3D1%26jcpsi%3D1%26artsi%3D1%26Query%3Dplacement%2Bvolontaire%2Basylum%26wc%3Don
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
