Zotero Integration/Document Preferences not working on a brand new document

I switched from Microsoft Word to LibreOffice several months ago. I went to edit a document originally created in Word and received the Zotero Integration error message

"Zotero cannot update this document because it was created by a different word processing application with an incompatible field encoding. In order to make a document compatible with both Word and LibreOffice, open the document in the word processor with which it was originally created and switch the field type to Bookmarks in the Zotero Document Preferences."

I went to create a whole new document in LibreOffice to copy some of the text in or just start writing, but in this new LibreOffice document I still get the same error message. I even get that message just by clicking on the "Set Document Preferences" button. SO at this point I can't use Zotero at all even in a brand new document.

At this point I'm not even sure where the error is, and the plugin troubleshooting pages don't really address this problem.

    You get that if you 1) restart LibreOffice, 2) create a new, empty document, and 3) click Add/Edit Citation?

    What version of LibreOffice? Can you provide a Report ID from Zotero?
  • Yes, I just tried it again and got the same error.

    LibreOffice version 25.2, Zotero error report ID 1513448714
  • I don't know the specifics in LO, but it's possible you have some custom template set for new documents, or you've changed some setting that's affecting the format of new documents. If you can't figure it out and don't have any settings you want to keep, you could try just closing LO and deleting the LO profile folder.

    @adomasven might have another idea.
  • That seems to have worked. Thank you!
