I attempted to copy the BibTeX of the selected item to my clipboard using Copy Citation (Ctrl+Shift+A) and Copy Bibliography (Ctrl+Shift+C) in Zotero 7 on Ubuntu. It didn't work. I am not getting anything on my clipboard.
No, that thread was about how to use BibTeX with Quick Copy. It wasn't saying it's the default setting. Zotero isn't a BibTeX-based tool and wouldn't ever use BibTeX by default for anything.
Note that if you're actually using a BibTeX-based workflow, you'd want to install the Better BibTeX plugin and use one of its formats for Quick Copy, not the built-in BibTeX translator.

I thought it was set to `BibTeX` by default, as mentioned here: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/443847/#Comment_443847
