PDF.js viewer randomly opens

Hey!

When I open certain PDF files in Zotero, I get a “Preparing document for printing” message (screenshot: https://s3.amazonaws.com/zotero.org/images/forums/u17723819/22fa6jnltn1wumyptdfg.png). Once it reaches 100%, a blank PDF.js viewer window appears (screenshot: https://s3.amazonaws.com/zotero.org/images/forums/u17723819/mzjtpdevszesgyljps9b.png).

This only happens with a few random PDFs — I haven’t noticed any common attribute between them. Sometimes I can close the blank window, but more often it causes Zotero to crash. Even if I manage to close it, reopening the same file will sometimes trigger the same issue again (though not always).

Until today everything was working normally, does anyone have an idea what could be going on and how to fix it?

I’m running Zotero on macOS Sequoia 15.6. I tried disabling all plugins (I only have Zutilo and Folder Importer), but the problem still occurs.

Thank you in advance!

Can you 1) provide a Report ID and 2) provide a link to a PDF it happens for or email one to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread?
  • Apologies, I wasn’t aware of the Report ID. I’ve now reported the problem — the number is 811388685.

I’ve also sent the email with the PDF.

    Thank you.

Thanks. Some PDFs apparently have embedded code meant to trigger auto-printing. (Both Acrobat Reader and Firefox will open a print dialog for that PDF, though macOS Preview ignores it.) We've changed it to ignore that code for the next version.
  • Wow, what a specific issue! Thanks for considering it and fixing it :)
