i am constantly typing these shortcuts that are used in other apps, but don’t work in Zotero.

You'd have to say what you're referring to.
Cmd-G / Cmd-Shift-G already work in the reader.
It looks like they don't work in the note editor. We'll fix that, but Return / Shift-Return work as long as the search field still has focus.
