Upgrade Storageproblem with zotero library incorrect titles or author lists
my zotero library of 5,000+ references has been scrambled and apparently hacked. Many of the references have now the wrong list of authors (but retain the correct title and volume) or the wrong journal title. Often, the journal title is mismatched to the journal title abbreviation. There are also chinese characters that appear in the short title field that were never there before, and also sometimes at the bottom of the abstract. E.g., 叶片大小、树苗异株性和 Corner 规则：枫树（Acer）的系统进 or 化和相关进化 外生菌根定殖减缓根系分解：死后真菌的遗产
I have not yet found a case where the doi is incorrect. The only solution I have found so far is to manually correct the reference by looking up the original citation via the doi. This is weeks of effort to correct each citation manually, and I am planning to abandon zotero as my reference manager if there is no automated solution this this problem.

I have google docs and word plug-ins installed, but that's it. also have the plug-in for google docs offline on chrome browser.
where are the chinese characters coming from, and why are references so scrambled relative to the original?

Many references have been duplicated (but not by actions of the library manager). You can see many cases of same article title with different publications.
In some of these cases NEITHER of the duplicates has the correct citation information (both have some element of wrong authors, wrong year, volume, or publication name), it is so bizarre.

and then consider changing the membership settings (either to only allow admins to edit or to make this a public/closed membership group).
I would still guess that this happened unintentionally with a plugin and not as a purposeful act of vandalism: lots of Chinese users have a lot of plugins installed that quite actively change content and it's very much possible something went wrong there, but impossible to say. You might be able to figure out who changed this if they also added new items by checking the "Added by" column in the web library of the group or you can see if there are any recent new members that you don't recognize.
