Different behavior of quick copy in Microsoft 365

edited November 28, 2024
The quick copy behavior in Microsoft 365 is different if you quick copy the citation or the bibliography. Is it the expected behavior?

1. In Zotero, select any citation style in quick copy setting, for example CMoS 17 (author-date).
2. Select any item in your library, then Ctrl+Shift+C (or Edit > Copy Bibliography)
3. Start a new, empty, PowerPoint presentation on SharePoint (Microsoft 365) in Chrome (Version 131.0.6778.85). Same with Firefox (version 133.0)
4. Ctrl+V to copy the content of the clipboard. The content is pasted into the document in the form of a Text Box (expected)
5. From the same item in 2, but this time Ctrl+Shift+A (or Edit > Copy Citation)
6. In the same document as in 4, Ctrl+V. Nothing happens
7. Then insert a Text Box. Inside the box, Ctrl+V. The citation is inserted.

Zotero 7.0.10
Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS

Edited to change Ctrl+C for Ctrl+V (thanks dstillman)
  • (Ctrl-V, you mean?)
  • Has anyone had a chance to look into this? I still see this with Zotero 7.1-beta.48, Google Chrome 138.0.7204.168 and Microsoft 365 16.0.19120.40508
  • I also see this on Windows 10:
    Zotero 7.1-beta.48+735922a2b (64-bit)
    Firefox 141.0 (64-bit)
    Microsoft PowerPoint 365 16.0.19119.40504

But if I copy some text from a random webpage, or from the Zotero Forums, and try to paste it in PowerPoint 365, it also fails. So it seems to be some limitations of PowerPoint 365.

OK, so after reading the reply above this one, I played a little bit with Ctrl+V and Ctrl+Shift+V. As @mjthoraval pointed out, copying and pasting some random text with Ctrl+V doesn't work. But Ctrl+Shift+V does. So I tried again to paste the citation (Edit > Copy Citation). So Ctrl+V still doesn't work, but Ctrl+Shift+V does. (Edit > Copy Bibliography, then Ctrl+V directly works, as in the OP.)
