Can't use it on chrome

When I click this link http://127.0.0.1:23119/connector/ping , it doesn't load - even when I've disabled all other extensions

Not sure what else could be blocking the connection

Message above is what I'm seeing now. When I click options in the zotero connector on chrome, it says: "Zotero Connector is not currently authorized to save items to zotero.org. You will be prompted for authorization if you try to save items while Zotero is not open."

I've tried saving stuff and I wasn't prompted. Intitially, it was saving files but suddenly stopped and now won't work
  • You'll need to follow these steps through to the end:

    https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/connector_zotero_unavailable
  • Hi,

I have and it still says it's not authorised unfortunately
  • 'not authorized' is referring to saving to zotero.org; that's entirely separate and should typically say 'not authorized'.

The linked page provides detailed troubleshooting instructions to figure out what on your system is blocking Zotero. We can help to a limited extent in interpreting output if you cannot if you tell us what you're seeing at the various troubleshooting stages, but the page does contain most of what we can tell you in terms of where to look.
  • Okay that makes sense.

However I've been trying to troubleshoot for a while now and nothing seems to be working

I use a chromebook and was told it should work - there's nothing I can see that is blocking a connection
  • So do you have Zotero installed as an app via Crostini or not?
  • I have the app through the Google Play store
  • And it allowed me to add files to the app for some time after I downloaded both the connector and the app.

When I went to add a citation in the google doc though, it said "is zotero running?"
  • No, you have the Zotero connector installed, not Zotero itself. You can't use Google doc integration without the Zotero app. See https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/installing_on_a_chromebook for installing the app on a chromebook and note that it will not install on all Chromebooks.
  • Thank you so much! This was really helpful - it seems to be working now

Thanks again, this has really saved me a lot of trouble

    All the best
  • Out of curiosity, did you have to forward any ports (Step 4 on that page), or did it just work after installing the app? I'm not sure if that last step is still required.
  • Hi, Thank you for your help too!

And no, I didn't do anything from the last step - I did go to 'edit' in the app and it never came up with preferences>advanced.

In the step, it did say that on some chromebooks, a port forwarding app may not be required so maybe my chromebook specifically just doesn't need it
  • I suspect it's just not necessary with current versions of ChromeOS, but hopefully someone else can confirm that.
