[Solved] Noticeable delay when dragging literature items

Hi,

Since updating to Zotero 7.0.21 on Linux I experience a noticeable delay while dragging items from the item pane. They become draggable only after a few seconds of keeping the mouse button pressed. Curiously, this only applies to literature items (books, articles etc.). Notes drag just fine. Dragging within the pdf reader also works as expected.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Hover over a literature item in the item pane.
2. Press the left mouse button and move the pointer.
3. *notice the delay of about 3 seconds where no dragging is possible and the pointer remains in 'pointing mode'*
4. The pointer finally switches to 'dragging mode' and dragging becomes possible.

The debug output is me first dragging a book, which results in the delay, and then a note, which works fine. Let me know if you need anything else from me.

A big thank you also to all those who work on Zotero for their efforts.

All best
  • Which Item Format have you selected in the Quick Copy settings (Export section of the settings)?

The slow dragging is due to the style selected as Quick Copy:

the Chicago styles have gotten much larger (and hence slower) recently and auto-update
  • Thank you for your quick reply! And sorry, I must have missed the thread you linked to in my search before posting.

Quick Copy was indeed the culprit. As item format I had Chicago 18th edition (author+date), which I don't even use. By switching to another style, Zeitschrift für Kunstgeschichte, which is apparently much smaller, drag and drop works again without any problems.

    Problem solved - thanks again!
  • The delay on drag should be fixed in the Zotero beta.
