How to show only items that contain selected tags

In the "collections and tags" section of the documentation it states that "only items that have all of the selected tags will be shown in the center pane." However, I am finding (in Zotero 7) that all items remain visible, with the non matching ones merely being grayed out. In my view this gravely reduces the power of tags to sort through large collections of items. Is there perhaps a setting somewhere to get the behaviour as described in the docs?

    That's referring to top-level items. Parent and child items of matching items are still shown. Not sure your exact use case, but this generally wouldn't be a problem for tags unless you were tagging child items, which isn't very common.

    We're planning a view setting that will let you hide the non-matching context rows, which is more important now that annotations will be shown in the items list.
