Feature Suggestion: Grouping Book Sections under Book
Hi all!
As someone who often has to collect multiple chapters by individual authors in edited volumes, I wondered whether it was possible to implement a feature in the Library where you can group the different book sections under the overall book? Maybe as a dropdown list?

But as stated by @adamsmith "I'm not aware of any work on hierarchical relationships and wouldn't expect anything on that in the near future".
In this thread, I mentioned the case of Citavi, a commercial reference management and knowledge organization software I use professionally. Quite powerful. It includes two hierarchical item types respectively called “Edited book” and “Special issue”. These specific item types works as a “container” for the different articles (referred to as “Contributions” in the Citavi environment) that compose the Book or the Special issue.
Note that Citavi makes a difference between the “Book” which is a reference in itself, and the “Edited Book”, which works as a containers hosting the different contributions. Therefore, there is no item “Book section” in Citavi as in Zotero. The book sections or book chapters are entered as “Contributions” to an “Edited book”.
This type of hierarchical relationship is required to properly cite the articles published in edited books or Special Issue of a journal, for which the editorial team is usually different from the usual one and must be cited for their editing work.
I therefore vote for such a development in the future version of Zotero. Bearing in mind it is not a simple development as it requires to define new item types with a more complex data model (dependencies, hierarchical relations…). But it would really be useful.
