Problem installing LibreOffice Add-In in Fedora Kinoite 42

Report Id 351114387

I have tried for days to conncect Zotero (both the Flatpak version and the tarball from the website) to LibreOffice (again Flatpak or native install) on Fedora Kinoite 42. When clicking on Install LibreOffice Add-In I get "NotFoundError: Could not get children of file(/opt) because it does not exist".
Current Zotero is 7.0.20 (64bit) installed via the default flatpak installer (discover) while I installed the current LibreOffice version using rpm-ostree (Version: 25.2.4.3 (X86_64) Build ID: 520(Build:3) CPU threads: 12; OS: Linux 6.15; UI render: default; VCL: kf6 (cairo+wayland) Locale: en-GB (en_GB.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded). The problem persisted both with the preinstalled JRE and the manually downloaded latest JDK.

First I tried playing around with the LibreOffice install, just to change the JRE. I ended up switching from the Flatpak install to rpm install of LibreOffice, but the problem persisted. Also deleting user folders did not change anything and the manual install only worked until I tried to use the Add-In, at which point both programs crashed (I tried to run Debug Output Logging in Zotero, but after it crashed I could not see the output anymore. I did whoever reproduce this and submit Error Report 1573353720 right afterwards, maybe that helps).
After understanding that the problem is likely due to the sandbox nature of the Flatpak, I tried to use the Zotero tarball the website gave me, but on launch (from the terminal) it returned "NotFoundError: File not found" when trying to install the LibreOffice Add-In. On launch I also got "Missing chrome or resource URL: chrome://zotero/skin/16/white/loading.svg" but that does not seem to be important.
My question now is: How can I get the Flatpak version to access said "children of file(/opt)" (I guess that would be the LibreOffice files)?
Thank you so much! I have been happily using Zotero for many months now, but now that I finally have to hand in the papers I actually need to create bibliographies and citations
  • Addition: The crash I described also happens when I try to use the Google Docs integration via the Browser Picker. Google Docs will show "Zotero is updating your document. Please wait…" and Zotero will crash in the background. I submitted a report with the ID 2036294733 after it crashed. Curiously the connector plugin will still show Zotero as connected, even though it has obviously crashed. I also submitted a report with the ID 57525348 in the plugin
  • You should use the official, non-Flatpak versions of both Zotero and LibreOffice. If you still have trouble after that, say exactly what happens and we can try to help.
  • Maybe I did not write it clearly above, but the problem described was (also) occuring with the non-flatpak install of both programs. But I am astonished by how until now I have always overlooked all the notes about the unofficial nature of the Flatpaks :-s.

I deinstalled the Flatpak and reinstalled the official version, and while the connectors finally seem to be working, it still says the add-in is not currently installed in the settings, and when I press the install button I get NotFoundError: File not found. (Debug ID 1181174150).
There is also the problem that once I open Zotero I cannot close it without it automatically restarting. I suspect however that this is a problem with some KDE Plasma configuration rather than with Zotero itself
  • Did you install Zotero from the official tar? Where did you put it? We've not really seen anyone else report an error like this, but it seems like Zotero is having trouble finding its own files. You could try manually installing the LibreOffice plugin https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_manual_installation
  • I installed it using the Zotero-7.0.20_linux-x86_64.tar.bz2 from the Downloads page, and after upacking it I moved it to /opt/zotero/. The automatic installation did not work so I did the manual installation by choosing /opt/zotero/integration/libreoffice/Zotero_LibreOffice_Integration.oxt with the LibreOffice Add-In manager. Is there any more information I can provide?
  • Does the plugin work after installing it manually?
