From Google Documents to Microsoft Word

Hi,

I have been a dedicated Zotero user for the past 16 years. However, I recently encountered a critical issue that I wanted to bring to your attention.

While working collaboratively on a document using Google Docs, with multiple contributors using Zotero for citations, we noticed that after exporting the file to Microsoft Word, all the references were removed. This seems to be a bug in the integration process between Google Docs and Microsoft Word.

I would be grateful if your team could investigate this integration issue.

All the best,
  • Did you follow the instructions to convert your document to a different word processor? https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/moving_documents_between_word_processors
  • I downloaded the Google Docs file, opened it in MS Word, and exported it to PDF. I was not aware of the Google Docs to Word conversion instructions. I thought that I would see all references automatically when I download it.
  • Yes, there's one extra step you have to take to preserve citations.

If you've interacted with the plugin at all in that session, it should warn you if you try to download the file as a .docx without following the transfer step, but if you haven't, we're not able to do so.
