External pdf reader support on iPad
I've been extremely happy with Zotero and would love to begin using the storage to sync my files between my computer and iPad. However, I am using an external reader on both devices as I like to use custom colors and pdf viewing options (as well as being able to edit files while reading).
I would thus like to request support for external readers for linked files on mobile devices. I am aware that this has been discussed in other posts and that there is a risk of slowing down the synchronization (or even corrupting files). However, these risks are even more pronounced when using third-party cloud storage, which is my current system. I believe keeping the option to choose pdf readers open would make the IOS app tremendously more user-friendly.

Supporting external readers is currently also not possible, because of how syncing annotations works internally. This might change some time in the future and we've definitely thought about ways to make Zotero attachments (PDFs, epubs, etc.) available outside of Zotero iOS app, but at this time there are no plans for this and it will require a lot of work, so don't expect to see this in coming months.
