Sometimes when I click or highlight a word on pdf on Zotero, a definition comes up. But it's very temperamental like it has to slide. What's the actual trick to make the definitions come up?

    Hi there! Just picking up on this discussion again...

    I've included an image in the original post. The image is from Zotero desktop app on Macbook Air. I use a mouse and track pad, but for some reason the 3-finger tap doesn't work. Dictionary entries like this just come up almost randomly - not really sure what I'm doing.

    I'm aware of the cmd+ctrl+d shortcut, which works but sometimes not accurate like it would just show up the meaning of "act" and not the full word "interaction".

    Zotero on iPad and iPhone is great for quick look up of words by doing a long press of a particular word.

    I'd guess that you're force-clicking on the trackpad. That can be set up to trigger the Look Up feature.

    The exact placement and parsing of the highlight is going to depend on the PDF and the quality of its text layer. It should be pretty accurate on a generated PDF and less so on a scanned/OCRd PDF.
