Thanks for response. I have zotero on top of my input bar to cite in the word document. and also the button "add Bib" When I go to Add Bib, it only transfers books to me, but not the journal articles that were saved in the zotero program with the Doi in a folder. This means that only half of the selected folder that I want to transfer to the document as a bibliography is transferred.
There's still some confusion here -- if you have a collection in Zotero that you want to create a bibliography from, use right-click--> Create Bibliography in Zotero itself (not the Word add-on). You don't need the Word add-on. The Word add-on's "Add Bibliography" picks up items that you've added to the document as citations using "Add Citation".
it would be important for me to be able to make changes in my bibliography added to my word file and update it when an additional source is added. Because if I use your tip, I can only convert the collection from Zotero into an rtf. file on the desktop, and have to convert it into a .doc file first, because the function does not allow this directly.
You've inserted citations using the Zotero Word(?) add-on and now you click add Bibliography and ... what exactly happens?

You can just copy a collection to your clipboard and then paste it to your word document.
