Unable to add new resources into Zotero 7 desktop + unable to automatically populate metadata

Hello! I recently exceeded the storage limit of my Zotero account, and as a result could not add new resources to my collections. I updated my account to be part of my institution's license, which comes with unlimited storage (also updated to Zotero 7).

However, I still cannot add new resources to the desktop version of Zotero. I can now add new resources via the web version (which subsequently are visible on the desktop version), but the metadata does not automatically populate in either place.

I would appreciate guidance! Thank you!
  • This is some sort of misunderstanding. Being at your storage quota never prevents you from adding things to the Zotero desktop app.

What's the actual problem that you're experiencing? See Steps to Reproduce for the kind of description we need.
  • Report ID: 1632919329

When I attempt to drag a new PDF into any part of Zotero desktop app, a red "stop sign" shows up next to the cursor and it is not possible to add a PDF into any collection, or folder.

    Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Start Zotero desktop app
    2. Drag PDF from computer's downloads folder to collection folder
    3. Red "stop sign" symbol appears next to cursor (red circle with diagonal red line through the middle) in all parts of Zotero.
    4. This occurs for multiple PDFs

In the past, I have been able to drop PDFs into Zotero collections without the stop sign appearing. Tahnk you.
  • Maybe the error message will have something helpful, but just to make sure -- you're dragging to your personal library, not to a group (which could have file attachments disabled)?
  • Yeah, that wouldn't have anything to do with a storage quota.

File editing being disabled would prevent dragging, but it doesn't look like that's the case here.

@KFlinner: Can you provide a Debug ID (different from a Report ID) for trying to drag? You should also try the Add File button in the toolbar instead of dragging.
