[Android][Bug] PDF annotator, highlighted text != annotation content

I've recently encountered a bug on the android version of the pdf annotator.

Basically, after highlighting a portion of text, most of the times (not always) the annotation content is different than the highliht. The annotation content contains some more words.

The words in excess are those immediately following the end of the highlight and it's not obvious why the content takes those exact words in excess (e.g. they are not the words contained in the bounding box of the highlight).

Some details:
- I use the highlight annotation (I only use that annotation)
- I'm currently using the android app on a boox note 4c.
- I used annotations in two PDFs, I've seen this behovior only in one.
- The behaviour only presents on android, if I higlight new text (or edit the bad anntation) on a desktop zotero, the annotation content is correct.

I can send you the pdf if you think it makes sense
  • Yes, please send the PDF to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread.
  • Hi! I'm having the same problem. I'm using the latest version of the app on Android from Google Play. I tried annotating two different PDFs. In the first case, I got hyphenation in the middle of words, even though it wasn't in the text (not critical). And in the second case, I highlight text, it highlights correctly (visually the highlighting is right), but the text that gets captured into the annotation is incorrect. In most cases, extra text gets added to the beginning and end besides the highlighted text. And in some cases, the text in the annotations gets fragmented and mixed up/repeated in a strange way. At the same time, annotating the same documents on a computer works correctly. The app also highlights everything correctly on the iPhone. The issue is only happening on my Android tablet. I can send you the resulting files, but the text in them is in Russian.

P.S. Files with incorrect annotations made on Android display incorrectly on the computer/iPhone. Files with correct annotations made on the computer/iPhone display correctly on Android too.
  • @tim9541: Please send the files.
  • @dstillman, I sent the file to support@zotero.org. Thanks so much for looking into this :)
