Reveal Attachment in Finder While the PDF Is Open (macOS)

Hi everyone,

When I’m reading a PDF in Zotero’s built-in viewer on macOS, I often need to locate that file in Finder (eg, to rename, move, or share it).

The usual path —switch back to the library, re-select the item, and then choose Show File— feels like a roundabout.

Is there a keyboard shortcut and a menu command that lets me jump straight from the open attachment to its location in Finder without first returning to the library view?

Thanks in advance for any pointers!

Renaming or moving the file would break the link to the file in Zotero. You would want to rename the file from the right-hand pane in the library view. Moving a file stored in Zotero wouldn't make sense at all.

Modifying the file outside of Zotero in an external reader — say, by deleting a page — would put Zotero annotations out of sync with the file.

The file on disk would also be missing the Zotero annotations shown in the reader.

For all those reasons, we don't expose this option directly in the reader.

Sharing is another matter, and there's File → Save As…, which includes Zotero annotations, for that.

Now, if you want to share the original, unannotated file, you do currently have to use Show in Library first, but we could consider providing an option to save a copy of the unannotated file from the reader.

Yes, I do understand the concern. In my experience, I have never run into an issue after editing the file outside Zotero. But that's just me, of course.

Is it possible, at least, to add an option such as "Show in Finder" we can see when we right click on the Attachment shown in the right side bar?

Also, thank your attention to this matter.
