In-text citation formatting
Hello! I am currently writing a large document using the Zotero plug-in for Microsoft Word and had a quick question. Is there a way with the plug-in to insert a citation as Author (year) instead of (Author, year)? I saw quite a few discussion posts asking this but most of them were from over a decade ago so I wanted to see if there was any update or movement on allowing alternate in-text citation format without having to manually edit every citation I insert.
For example, with the way I'm currently using the plug-in, I will type "According to [CN], this system..." and then when I insert a citation replacing [CN] (just my own notetaking for "citation needed"), the sentence reads "According to (Author, Year), this system...". I then have to manually edit the citation to move the left parenthesis and delete the comma after the author name so it correctly reads "According to Author (Year), this system...". From then on, whenever I refresh my citations, it gives me a note saying that I can either remove my manual adjustment or not update the citation, neither of which are ideal in a document with potentially a hundred or more references.
Thanks!

dstillmanedited 3 days agoCustomize the citation and use Omit Author. See "Narrative Citations with Omit Author” there. Don't edit the citation in the document.
