[PDF reader] the blueish citation color is quite distracting for dark PDF background

The current Zotero beta enables users to modify the PDF background color.
For dark PDF background the default blueish citation color (as depicted in the accompanying screenshots) becomes suddenly distracting.
An option to modify or disable the citation color would be beneficial.

  • Yeah, I agree. I was hoping there was a way to change it ourselves but I haven't found one.

  • I agree. At first, this was quite shocking and I thought there was something wrong with my Zotero!! I'm used to it now, but it still confounds my actual highlights, especially when using the blue colour (and I have a meaning for each of the colours, so I can't just change my system now).

I suggest Zotero consider using text colour instead of highlight for the links. I, too, use dark mode: brighter white would work nicely. For day mode, consider blue text like in a usual hyperlink.
  • I agree, upon installing the latest version I thought there was something wrong with my computer. I find the blueish hue of dark PDFs distracting, especially when combined with highlighted citations, which are blueish even in the light mode.

I would really appreciate if Zotero corrected this issue and removed the background colour, it would really help with navigating through the PDFs , or introdiced a new feature enabling the user to change the backround colour.
  • I also wondered if maybe there had been an error on my computer's side. I presume the only solution is to roll back to 7.0.24 or another earlier version? That's what I did. I'll update to 8.0 should they add a setting to change the background back to the pitch black, maximum-contrast tone that I prefer.
  • I very much hope they add a setting to change dark mode to the pitch-black version from Zotero 7, and also bring back automatic image inversion (which was the most useful part of dark mode for me). If some users like the new version that's great, but having the option to have dark mode exactly like v7 would be really appreciated.
