Citavi --> Zotero ??

Hi there,
I am about to leave Citavi for Zotero as my university will end its support by October or so.
I have a total of 3500 entries in my Citavi database and also 2500 annotations.
As others in this forum have noted, these annotations lose categories and tags when being imported into zotero.
https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/99212/citavi-import-categories-and-keywords-of-annotations-not-imported#latest

My questions are:
Will there be some additional feature in the next 6 months or so to help with importing annotations or will I have to put up with reorganising these 2500 notes?

Are there alternative ways to retrieve this information? Maybe it is possible to export to .md from citavi?

Is there a view in citavi that can display these annotations only? Or can it only have annotations per entry?

(Unrelated) Is there a way to have zotero with a light theme even when my Windows 10 is set to a dark theme? That'll be great and probably I just haven't found it.

Thanks!
  • Additionally I have noted that on importing Zotero loses the following:
all call numbers ("Standort") but one if there are several.
    the name of the library.
    Institutions are imported as contributors.

But these points are not so important in comparison to the misssing annotation-keywords.
  • Oh, and also Zotero does not seem to register the type of annotation. In Citavi you can tag annotations as 'direct quote', 'comment' etc.
Maybe you could work your way around this by mass tagging your annotations in citavi before exporting them and doing this by sorting all annotations by type and tagging them then with the tag 'quote' etc. - IF you could then import this into Zotero.
  • Not much going on here...

As stated in the other thread, keywords from Citavi are imported as tags in Zotero, and categories—other than the one to which annotations have already been assigned by their association with an item—cannot be imported, as there is no way to represent that relationship in Zotero.

If you don't see the keywords imported as tags in Zotero, please provide a Debug ID from the import.

It's often the case that some data is lost during import, especially when there is no way to represent it in Zotero—such as with multiple call numbers.

We can't do anything in Citavi; we can only operate on the data Citavi includes in the backup. We will investigate whether it's possible to import this data as a tag.

Yes, in "Preferences" → "General", there is a "Color Scheme" option, which can be set to "Light".

  • Thanks for getting back.
I am aware of the import of tags for items. But I can't see these tags for annotations.

It's a pity about the call numbers I didn't expect thsi to be difficult but oh my...
Thanks for the light scheme hint, apparently it was too far on top for me
  • But I can't see these tags for annotations.
When you open an attachment in the Zotero Reader, tags for each annotation should appear underneath the annotation in the pane on the left. When filtering by tag in the main view, if the selected tag is associated with an annotation, the parent item appears in the results. A future version of Zotero will include annotations in the main view tree.
