Move attachment library from Zotero storage to local shared (OneDrive)

Firstly thanks for such a great product. Zotero truly is the GOAT reference manager.

I was paying for storage, but now I'm over 2GB and unfortunately the next option is a bit expensive for me (unfortunately it is a personal expense).

I'm now trying to only sync the database via Zotero sync, while keep the attachments on a cloud folder (OneDrive). I understand this should be possible via the advanced settings.

However, when I deselect sync attachments, and specify a OneDrive "Linked attachment base directory", new attachments are still stored in the "Data Directory Location".

Not sure what I'm doing wrong here - or perhaps I have some misunderstanding of this capability. Any advice would be very helpful! Thanks.
  • I found the solution using the ZotMoov plugin - able to transfer attached files to attached file links in a shared directory.

The Linked Attachment Base Directory (LABD) you mentioned only affects where Zotero *looks* for linked PDFs when you try to open them. It has no effect on where they get stored. That's why it did not do what you expected. See "this setting does not control where files are stored" ....
    https://www.zotero.org/support/preferences/advanced#files_and_folders

If the path to your linked files is the same on all your computers, you should *not* set a LABD (but it changes how PDF paths are stored to the database - so once you have set it one computer, you need to set it on all your computers ... even if it is the same path on each).
