Changes to Group Library Not Syncing to Other Group Members' Libraries or Web Library

Report ID: D272324855

Changes I make to our office's group library are not being synced to other group members' libraries or to the group web library. Here is the history of setting up our group library: A few people in my office originally had Zotero installed on their Windows-based computers (using different individual Zotero accounts) and had been using Zotero for a while when we decided to create a group library. I created a new Zotero account specifically to set up a group library (private). I sent invitations for the group to my colleagues, including to my original account, which I accepted. My account shows up in the group membership list, as do those of my colleagues. Any group member can read and edit the library, and can edit files. Once the group was created, I copied the items in the "My Library" on my computer into the group library. The items copied over correctly, but not all of the PDFs copied because I had used up the default storage space in my library. We then purchased unlimited storage space for the group library. We have over 12,000 items in the group library. In following weeks I used my original Zotero account on my computer to add new items and attachments to the group library. I had File Syncing enabled in both My Library and the group library, ensuring that both libraries were selected under "Libraries to Sync". For a few weeks I had "Sync automatically" under "Data Syncing" disabled because I was dragging groups of PDFs into the group library and the process of copying, indexing, and syncing the PDFs was taking a long time because of the automatic syncing. However, after the PDFs were copied I would manually sync (by clicking on the Sync button). Recently, one of my colleagues told me that items that I had added to the group library over the past few weeks could not be found when she searched the group library on her computer. I asked another colleague to check the installation on his computer and he reported that he also could not see those recently added references. I then re-enabled automatic data syncing in my installation of Zotero. However, I have not seen any changes in the group web library to match the group library visible on my computer, i.e., either incorporating those older changes or incorporating new additions that I made since re-enabling automatic syncing. What am I doing wrong?

Steps to reproduce:
1. Add an item to the group library on my computer.
2. The sync button rotates
3. The group libraries on my colleagues' computers and in the group web library are not updated to incorporate the new item.
  • Something odd happened while you had auto-sync disabled.

In the group library, paste D9H37Z4D into the Zotero search bar in All Fields & Tags mode, delete the note that comes up, and empty the trash.
  • Thanks for the quick response.

I tried your suggestion, but the search yielded no results. Searching the Bin returned two references.
  • Did you empty the trash and try syncing again?

    Thanks.

I'm in the midst of trying that now. Part way through the emptying of the bin it came back with a request for conflict resolution. It asked whether to "Use the remote version for all remaining conflicts" (multiple instances of two versions of the same references). I checked that box and clicked Next. It's still syncing.
  • Emptying the trash bin worked. After a lengthy syncing process (the library is huge) The Web Library looks like it has synced correctly with the library on my computer. Thank you dstillman and adamsmith.
