"Something went wrong when opening your profile" error when quickly reopening Chrome window

Hi everyone,

I've encountered a reproducible issue with the Zotero Connector on Google Chrome for macOS.

If I close the last open Chrome window (e.g. using Cmd+W) and then immediately (<1–2 seconds) open a new window using Cmd+N, Chrome shows the following error message: "Something went wrong when opening your profile. Some features may be unavailable."

This message appears six times in a row, and then Chrome works normally. Crucially, this only happens when the Zotero Connector extension is enabled. Disabling the extension fully resolves the issue. Waiting 2–3 seconds before reopening the window avoids the issue entirely. It seems like the Zotero Connector is trying to access something within the Chrome profile too early, while Chrome is still in the process of shutting down or restarting. Reinstalling the extension does not fix the issue.

System details:
MacBook: 13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports, i5
macOS version: Sequoia 15.4.1 (24E263)
Chrome version: 136.0.7103.114
Zotero Connector: 5.0.165

Thanks in advance!
