Deleting one citation in a list of many

If I have a list of citations in the text e.g. (A, B, C, D, E) is there a good way to delete one of them e.g. (A, B, C, E).
If I use the Word delete key to delete "D", then when I ask Zotero to Refresh the bibliography it warns me that the references have been manually edited and that this will cause problems down the line.
The work around is to delete all of the references and then manually add them back in (except for the undesired one) but this takes a long time.
  • Place the cursor in the citation, click the Add/Edit Citation button in the Zotero tab in Word, then delete the item you want to remove from the popup
