Item Pane (Pain)

Hello all,

I am having an issue with the items pane, but I can't be sure if this is bug or a feature. I can unselect the "items pane" (in the View > Layout menu) to hide the unnecessary right pane when I find it too distractive or inconveniencing when the display is too small. When the right pane is hidden, the icons lining the right edge still remain visible, which is excellent for easy navigation. However, when I am reading the sources, the "item pane" option does not work at all. In other words, selecting/deselecting it does simply nothing.

I am using the latest version of MacOS. Does this apply to you too, or is it just me?
  • In Reader tabs, you can toggle the right-hand pane (Context Pane) with the toggle button at the top-right of the Reader.

The View > Layout menu is not adapting to the Reader tabs at the moment:

I gave it a try days ago for other purposes, but I couldn't manage to use it properly. I will give it another go another day, thank you for your suggestion. :)

One last bit: It would be great when you click on the toggle button you pointed out, it would remain in its position rather than moving with the pane. That way, without moving the mouse, one could peep into the contextual data for a moment and then hide it immediately after. That would streamline the click-focussed navigation.

It now works this way in the latest Zotero 7.1 beta. (It required adding the toggle button in the library view too.)
  • There are now two buttons in beta 7.1. One in the right-hand pane that doesn't move and one that is next to the search bar.

@SteffenHe: Can you provide a screenshot of what you're seeing? Can you reproduce this in Troubleshooting Mode (Help → "Restart in Troubleshooting Mode…”), which temporarily disables all plugins?
  • @dstillman It doesn't occur when disabling plugins, so I guess it's caused be a plugin I have installed.
  • @SteffenHe: You should identify the plugin that's causing it and report it to the plugin developer (and tell us).
  • @dstillman I appreciate this update a lot! It is amazing how these seemingly very little things can make the UI experience 10 times better. Thank you for attending to the issue so promptly!

    Have a great day!
