keyboard shortcuts not working on Mac when importing .ris

Trying to import .ris file to Zotero desktop. Using keyboard shortcut: Shift+cmd+I (as indicated in menu). This step works ok, but at the popup screen/prompt "Where do you want to import from? the "Continue" button will not execute when hitting the "Return" key.

Other later steps in the process that present the "Continue" or "Done" buttons have similar issues.

This would seem to be an accessibility issue.

Operating system used - MacOS 15.4.1
  • You can use the Tab and arrow keys to move focus, and Enter or Space to "click" the active/focused button. This works the same way as keyboard-driven navigation throughout the rest of Zotero.
  • Return should still trigger the default button, though. @pg4952, are you sure that's not working for you on the first page? I can reproduce it not working on the Options page, but Return triggers Continue on the first page for me — there's just a brief delay before the macOS file picker opens.

On Options, Return does work after you Tab once into the page (to give the checkbox focus). We'll try to fix it not working when that screen first loads.
  • @tnajdek - Tab and arrow keys do not move focus, Enter/Space does not work to "click" the active/focused button.

@dstillman - Checked this morning and Return does not trigger default "Continue" button. Not sure what you are referring to re. "Options" - the "Settings" menu item? Settings popup window does allow tab and navigation using arrows.

    Thanks both for your responses.

  • There is a bug where, on the second screen—after selecting a file to import—the import wizard would not accept the Return key to continue. That's what I believe Dan is referring to as the "Options" screen. We discovered this issue after your report (thank you!) and it will be fixed in the next release.

However, on the remaining screens, I believe that the Return key works as expected, and focus can be moved using the Tab key for full keyboard-driven navigation. We were able to verify this on two different machines running macOS. If it doesn’t work for you, it might be worth investigating whether something is interfering with this locally?
  • (The second screen says "Options" at the top of the window.)
  • We've fixed the bug on the Options page in the latest Zotero beta.
