non-US based subscription option?

My German Uni refuses to reimburse my Zotero subscription because you are using US-based cloud servers. Apparently this is illegal from a German Uni perspective. Is there or could there be an option to opt for European servers? I know that I could alternatively set up my own WebDav, but that's not my preferred route.
  • Not that you can do anything about that, but your university is wrong about GDPR implications unless you're planning to store private personal information in Zotero (which you shouldn't do anyway). There definitely are no EU servers available right now, nor have I heard anything about offering them.
  • Given the recent political situation it’s like to reiterate that it would be nice to have options here…
  • I love Zotero and all the hard work you are doing here, but by now it is a liability to have research references stored on a US server governed by US laws and accessible to US agencies. That is personal-sensitive information, especially in the current political climate.

This is no fault of Zotero of course. But it would be great if it was possible to set up alternative (EU-based) servers and select that alternative server in your Zotero preferences.
