7.0.15 highlighted PDFs from earlier version nearly invisible

edited 7 days ago
So I upgraded recently to 7.x from 6.x (sorry, I do not remember the version) on a machine running fully-patched Windows 11.

I find that highlighted text in PDF files that I annotated in the previous version is virtually invisible. This is true whether I'm using light mode:

or dark mode:

The highlights show fine in the file if opened in Adobe Acrobat:

This is not a problem with NEW highlights ... that is, if I create a new highlight in 7.0.15 the color is perfectly visible in light mode and not invisible (though not great) in dark mode. The problem is only with exported/imported collections.
  • Not entirely. I was randomly poking around my old library, and discovered that highlights are displaying perfectly readably on some files, but invisibly on others. I started looking at the files themselves (using the "show file" option) and, so far at least, it appears that files I annotated in the summer of 2021 are showing the nearly transparent manner described above, while files I annotated in the summer of 2022 and later are rendering fine.

I haven't dug around to narrow the date range, and I don't have a record of when I did version updates, but it appears that this may be limited to older annotations. So it is not (best I can tell) related to the thread @poettli just shared.
  • Either way, there ought to be a fix.

But your annotations in the screenshots show a lock, which means they have been created externally. Not by Zotero. So it is covered by the thread I have linked.
