Group item and note URLs - are they stable?

Hi, everyone! I am advising a user who wants to use Zotero URLs in a book, directing readers to documents in a public group library. Are these Zotero URLs stable over time? The author would want to direct users to both items and notes.

Here's an example item URL:
https://www.zotero.org/groups/4804340/columbia-university-charleston-oa-rubric/items/EQ2D34GW

& an example note URL:
https://www.zotero.org/groups/4804340/columbia-university-charleston-oa-rubric/items/7NUPMUR8/note/LRFFRLCA/item-details

Thanks!

    Thank you, @bwiernik.

Just to clarify, all URLs are stable, including "items" URLs and "Note" URLs?

They are stable in principle, but I think might break if you change the library name, which is possible. If you want to make them more securely stable, you can remove the group name, which can be changed. So https://www.zotero.org/groups/4804340/items/7NUPMUR8/note/LRFFRLCA/item-details (which will then redirect to the above URL with the library name); also has the benefit that the URLs are shorter.

Beyond that, web library URLs (both group and individual) are based on permanent item keys (they eight-digit alphanumeric string) and library IDs (the 4804340) and don't change (as long as you don't delete the item they reference, obviously).

Since you mention referencing documents, just making sure you (and they) are aware that you can't share attached files using public groups.
  • I had thought that the group library name was ignored for resolution and it was only included for human readability?
