Metadata lost when exporting and importing in .ris format

Hello, Zotero community.

At my place of work we have been using Zotero for months (the "old" version, that had an interface like this: https://cdn.lo4d.com/t/screenshot/full/zotero-standalone.webp).

However, we now use the new version, and some problems have started to appear. One of our main concerns is that we seem to lose information every time we export items in .ris format and we later add them again, information such as contributors, editors or call number does not appear.
For example, person A exports some items and sends the .ris file to person B. Wehen person B opens the file using Zotero, some items have lost part of their metadata.

I found out that this does not happen when exporting in Zotero RDF format, but we wanted to know if there is something that can be done regarding .ris.

Thank you.
  • Nothing has changed about this between Zotero 6 (your screenshot) and 7 (the latest version). RIS is inherently lossy. Zotero RDF is close to lossless, but your best option of all would be to collaborate in a group library instead of sending files back and forth.
  • Thank you! We will try to set up a group library indeed. We are fairly new to the whole Zotero system, so we believed .ris was safer, so thanks for the input!
