Zotero 7 for MacOS: problem with "rename file from parent metadata"

edited 4 days ago
Greetings --

I'm noticing a non-ideal bit of behavior in 7.0 (7.0.15) when trying to rename PDFs imported or added as attachments. Typically, my workflow might involve locating an article, using the Chrome plug-ins to extract both the metadata info into an item and, when possible, to retrieve the PDF. Invariably, the PDF is named something unintuitive/annoying, so I tend to immediately go to "rename file from parent metadata" so that my PDFs have a uniform naming convention with a meaningful file name.

In the past, this change would take effect immediately and show in list view. In 7.0, the file in list view does not update itself to display its new name, nor does collapsing an item in list view (typically including a parent item and the PDF and/or a snapshot) and reopening it/expanding it. It does, show up in the third details pane, with list view only giving me file type but not file name.

I am including a screenshot that shows the filename change has occurred, but can only be seen in the preview pane, and not in the list view, which used to show the name of the PDF beginning with authors, followed by date and title, not just that the file was a PDF.

Thanks.

In particular, note that files saved from the web have always been renamed, and simpler titles were always used by default. It has never been necessary to run Rename File from Parent Metadata on them, and people wasting time doing this unnecessarily is a big part of the reason we made changes here in Zotero 7.
