WebDAV Auth Fails in 7.1-beta.26 (macOS) Despite Browser Success

edited 22 days ago
Hi all,

I'm running into an issue with WebDAV file sync verification on Zotero 7.1-beta.26+8c7ab1eb6 (ARM64) on macOS 15.4.
Debug ID D560959877

Setup:

WebDAV Server: Self-hosted on TrueNAS Core
Connection URL: http://192.168.xx/zotero (local network, HTTP on non-standard port)
Problem & Key Finding:
When I enter the URL and credentials into Zotero's Sync preferences and click "Verify Server", it consistently fails (Error: "WebDAV verification failed"). However, if I open the exact same URL (http://192.168..xx/zotero) in my web browser, I am prompted for credentials, and the exact same username and password work perfectly – I can log in successfully.

Troubleshooting Done:

-Confirmed server reachability via ping and nc to the IP/port.
-Verified WebDAV service is running and responsive (browser access works).
-Successfully authenticated using the credentials via a web browser (proves credentials/permissions/server are okay).
-Disabled Zotero extensions (Better BibTex, Better Notes).
-Ensured no interfering proxy settings within Zotero.

Suspicion:
Since authentication works fine from a standard web browser but fails specifically within Zotero 7.1-beta.26, this strongly suggests a potential bug in this beta version related to WebDAV authentication handling, perhaps specific to HTTP connections or non-standard ports.

Has anyone else using this beta encountered similar WebDAV issues where browser access works but Zotero verification fails?

Thanks!

    (2)(+0000001): Channel status was 2152398861

(1)(+0000001): The server 192.168.[…] could not be reached.
The error is NS_ERROR_CONNECTION_REFUSED. I'm afraid that's all we can tell you. Check your server logs and/or TCP/IP traffic.
  • (And you can always try Zotero 7.0.15 from the download page to see if there's any difference.)
