How to manually trigger a reference in my works cited?

In word, I have a document in which I have had to manually enter an in-text citation in a footnote due to the fact that word does not allow fields in footnotes and other such spaces.

The problem now is that my Works Cited does not include that document since I didn't use Zotero to insert the in-text citation. Unfortunately, I don't need to cite that same document anywhere else in the body of the text.

How can I address this?
  • Word does allow fields in footnotes and you can insert citations into footnotes, but if you are in this situation for some reason, you can add references to the bibliography using the add/edit bibliography button and dialog
  • I have tried all sorts of things to get Word to let me insert the citation in the footnote and none of it has worked. I got tired of googling for it so am trying this approach instead.

I've looked at the Edit Bibliography screen a few times and couldn't figure out how to force the addition... suggetion? Am I missing something?
  • You select the item you want to add, then click the arrow pointing right.

If that's not clear, could you post a screenshot of what you are seeing?
  • That's embarrassing...I've been on that screen at least 3 or 4 times already and never saw the arrow. It's there, and worked perfectly. tyvm
